Still "LOST?"

I do a lot of reading.  A LOT OF READING.  And as the days have unfolded since the LOST finale, the whole world seems to be abuzz with opinions.  That's a lot of information to sift through.  While poking around today, I came across a few articles I though you all might be interested in reading.  Some different takes on the finale and lots of different views.  Some I'd agree with, some I wouldn't.  But I'll leave that for you to decide.

"LOST:" Step into the Light

As for myself, I continue to mull over the idea of community, something that God had been working on in my own life prior to this finale.  Something that's been coming up a lot lately and has only been stirred up more by this show.  Now, I have no theories about where our LOSTIES went after their departure from the church.  Whether Heaven, an afterlife, back to the Island, I don't know.  (Personally I wouldn't have been too disappointed had I seen the Island on the other side of those doors)  However, I am struck by the idea that it was this community that mattered the most.  With all the unanswered questions, all the polar bears and uncorked holes, LOST was at it's core a study in humanity, people, and in the end, it was these people IN their relationships that survived.  Isn't this how we were all sucked into LOST in the first place, by understanding them as people and how they worked together?  After all "Live together, Die alone."  

Today I found myself reflecting on the words of John Locke as he stated, "It's never been easy (to believe)" (Season One).  Still at the end, it was Jack who truly believed and I can only conclude that change came about as a result of his community.  The people that we surround ourselves with day to day will change our view of Christ, our view of belief, and will ultimately change us.  It is through our community that we will grow, love, live, and, on day, die.

While I would be hesitant to draw all my theology from a TV show, even one as fascinating as LOST, I think there's a lot we could learn from this finale, perhaps even this season if I look back on it more.  What is the meaning of true community and how do we find it?  Can we find it at all or must it be developed?  What in us must be developed to make it a reality?  How do we convert this Sideways/Island dwelling/ soul seeking idealism into the real world and allow our surrounding humanity to become community?

These questions and more are tumbling through my head.  Tell me what you think!

LOST: The Finale

*Disclaimer: if you've not watched the finale from 5/23, discontinue reading.  Post contains spoilers.

--Christian Shepard's casket finally arrives and Desmond signs for it.  Desmond and Kate talk, as he tells her: "No one can tell you why you're here, Kate...I wanna leave."

--Jack seems to find what he's been searching for.  And Kate must let him go.  Jack says that the Island is the only thing that he hasn't ruined.

--Sawyer surprises Locke/Smokie with the news that they are no long candidates.  But as he walks aways, Smokie discovers Vincent's tracks.  Vincent is with Desmond, Rose, and Bernard.  Rose says they don't get involved.  So after Desmond eats, he needs to move on.  In that moment, Locke/Smokie and Ben show up.  Smokie says Demond has to come or he will kill Bernard and Rose.  Smokie says Desmond WILL do what he wants. 

--Desmond surprises Smokie by guessing where they are going.  Miles tries to stay in radio contact with Ben, after he finds Richard.  So we discover that Ben hasn't completely turned to the dark side yet.  Miles and Richard continue on to blow up the plane.  

--Sideways Sun has a flash of Juliette and the ultrasound.  Then Jin remembers as well.  

--Jack and Smokie meet across a field.  Jack says, "We're all going to the same place."  Sawyer: "Then what?" Jack: "Then it ends."

--Richard get his first gray hair and tells Miles: "I just realized I want to live."

--Jack tells Desmond: "What happened, happened."  We take this as a moment of disbelief, but turns out to be telling us, "This is happening.  This is real."

--In the sideways reality, Sayid and Shannon are reunited in remembrance, and Boone comes back as well.

--Kate delivers Aaron and it's in this moment that she and Claire both remember.  Interesting to note that it was Aaron who awoke Kate, not Jack or Sawyer.  It was motherhood that defined her, not a man.

--Eloise confronts Desmond and asks if he's going to take Daniel.  Desmond says no and for a moment, I feel bad for Eloise.  She seems to be caught as much as all of them.  What is this mysterious pull and information that she's always had on the Island?

--Locke recovers instantly from surgery and as he moves his toes, he remembers.  But Jack only remembers for a second.  Locke says to Jack: "I hope someone does for you what you just did for me."

--Ultimately we see Jack kill Locke/Smokie on the Island and he returns to restore the light as the others escape.  Jack tells Hurley that he was chosen just to restore the light, but it was Hurley that was always meant to protect the Island.  As Jack descends into the cave, Hurley recruits Ben as his #2 in command.  Ben encourages Hurley to run the Island his way, "take care of people," re-write the rules.  

--In the sideways reality, Sawyer and Juliette are finally reunited in the most powerful scene of the series.  This scene was full of past references: "It worked." "We could go dutch."  "I had ya."  When Juliette died at the beginning of the season, she said they were in LA having coffee.  Looks like she was right.   An epic relationship for an epic show.  Flawed, unlikely, perfect.  Had me crying like a baby.

--Ben and Locke reunite at the funeral and Ben apologizes to Locke, to which Locke forgives him.  Reminds me of when Michael said the people on the Island were seeking forgiveness.  Ben says it means more to him than Locke can know.  But still Ben waits.  Hurley tells him he was a good #2, and Ben tells Hurley he was a great #1.  What is Ben waiting for?  If the rules have changed, could Ben still be alive protecting the Island?  Or is he simply waiting for Alex to remember?  In the scene a few weeks ago, I couldn't help but think that Rousseau, Alex and Ben would make a great family, if not a little twisted.

--All of Jack's memories come together as he touches his father's coffin.  Interesting that it wasn't when he kissed Kate.  Perhaps it has something to do with how he always felt he was in his father's shadow, how the Island finally made him grow up in a sense.  His father tells him that he is dead, they all are, dying at different times.  That this is a place they all created to find each other, to remember, to let go.  And as an audience, we are in a sense being told to let go.  

--In this funeral scene, Christian opens the back door for them to move on, and all we see is light.  Can I just throw in my two cents worth and say, I would have loved to have seen the Island on the other side of those doors.  But as viewers, we were again left with no definites.

--And some last notes to an epic show:

--I'm ok with the unanswered questions, but I truly missed seeing at least Miles and Richard in that final scene.  I loved the relationship that was developed between Sawyer and Miles and felt as though he was an integral part of the cast.  And what about Frank?

--The sense of community developed, particularly in that last scene, is so... speaks to the sense of community we all build as human beings, especially Christians, in an effort to truly live.  Very rich and a lot could be written about that one scene alone.

--Did not like the all roads lead to heaven bit.

--Scene with Sawyer and Juliette,... still can't get over it.  Best written and acted scene ever.

--As for our LOSTIES who left on the plane...  Perhaps they returned to another "time" and reinvented themselves, living out the rest of their lives in relative harmony.  I'd like to think so.  

I was a little sad at the end at first.  I wanted a joyous happy reunion with everyone alive and off the Island.  I wasn't too happy with the Purgatory bit.  But after thinking about it, I realized I got exactly what I wanted.  A reunited, forgiven, restored cast... relationships as they were meant to be... people reunited by the experiences they had... community... closure.

What a crazy end to a wild ride!  Still churning over details, but satisfied with what's been left.

LOST (6x16)--Let's Recap

*Disclaimer--If you've not watched the episode from 5/18, discontinue reading.  Post contains spoilers.


--On the Island, Jack and Kate are alone when he is stitching her up. They both come to the conclusion that they have to kill Locke/Smokie.  Our LOSTIES decide to start looking for Desmond as Smokie wants him.

--Flash sideways to see Desmond watching Locke. Ben recognizes him and flashes back to the Island as Desmond beats him. Desmond says he's trying to get Locke to "let go", before speeding away.  Ben and Locke are discussing the incident with Desmond.  When Ben tells Locke, Locke pauses, remembering Jack's words.  Locke goes to see Jack.  He tells Jack the whole story.  We find Locke is still the "Man of Faith" as he starts to put the pieces of the puzzle together.  He concludes that Jack is supposed to fix him; he's ready to get out of his chair.

--We find Ben, Richard, and Ben wandering in the jungle looking for the barracks. They are looking for explosives to blow up the plane. Miles starts joking about the timeline and suddenly senses Alex. Richard confirms that where he buried her. Ben thanks him.  They find Widmore and his right hand girl in Ben's house. Widmore claims the Jacob invited him back to the Island.  They find out that Lock/Smokie is coming and they have to hide.  Richard tries to talk with him, but ends up dead.  Ben says he'll kill anyone that Smokie tells him to and turns on Widmore, revealing his whereabouts.

--Desmond shows up at the police station and turns himself in to Sawyer and Miles.  He ends up in a cell with Sayid, next to Kate.  And our LOSTIES continue to collide.

--Sawyer blames himself for the deaths that have occurred.  Jack said Smokie couldn't kill them so Sawyer believes he did it.  Hurley spots young Jacob in the jungle, who asks for the ashes.  Jacob runs off and Hurley discovers older Jacob in the jungle.  Jacob burned them, saying when they are gone, Hurley won't see him anymore.

--In a touching moment, Alex and her mom, Rousseau invite Ben to dinner in the sideways reality.  Rousseau tells Ben that he is the closest thing to a father that Alex has ever had.

--Locke needs something from Widmore and threatens Penny trying to get the information.  Widmore confesses that he brought Desmond back because of his resistance.  Ben kills him before he can tell Locke anything more.

--All our LOSTIES run into Jacob.  They all see and hear him out.  Jacob tells them: "sit down and I'll tell you why you were chosen, what you need to know about protecting the Island... one of you will do it."  Jacob admits that he made a mistake (killing MIB).  Sawyer asks, "Why us?"  Jacob confronts them with their "flaws," saying: you were like me,... alone,... looking,... you needed this place.  Kate's name was crossed out because she became a mom.  The job: "Protect the light."  "Protect it from him."  Jack asks: "Is it even possible to kill him?"

--Jacob says that he brought several of them back to give them a choice, something he never had.  But someone has to choose or it will end badly.  Jack volunteers, "This is why I'm here."  Jacob tells him where the light is...  Jacob "blesses" the water (turning it to wine) and tells Jack to drink it, from a cup. Sawyer comments the Jack has a "God complex."  So much Biblical symbolism in this scene.

--In the sideways reality, Sayid, Kate, and Demond are shipped out the police station.  Kate tries to get Sawyer to let her go; he knows she is innocent.  Desmond asks if they are ready to get "out of there" and asks them to trust him.  "After I set you free, I'm going to ask you to do something, promise me you'll do it."  They promise (jokingly)... the driver ( Anna Lucia) let's them go... Hurley pays her off... he recognizes her, but Desmond says, "she's not ready yet."  Kate goes with Desmond (to Daniel's concert/ at Mile's dad's/ Dr. Cho's museum), Sayid with Hurley.

--Ben and Locke go to the well.  Widmore told Locke that Desmond was a failsafe, a last resort to keep Locke/Smokie there.  So Ben asks Locke why he is looking for Desmond.  Locke is going to use Desmond to help him blow up the Island.

--Favorite line of the night:
Ben asks Richard if they want to just disable the plane or blow it to hell to which Richard replies: "blow the plane to hell" --(indication of MIB/Smokie/ Locke's true identity?),

--But honestly there were so many great quotes tonight.  You have to check out Shannon's post.

--Ok, so what happened to Miles in this whole scene?  He just disappeared...

--Is this concert one where Jack's son will be performing as well?

--If the Island ends up under water (as we saw in the premier), is Locke successful in destroying the Island? After all, doesn't Sun see Locke in the hospital and recognize him as evil? Is MIB successful in escaping?

And my next question is, what in the world am I going to do on Tuesday night from now on?  I've turned into "that crazy lady with the cat who watches LOST."  I may be in some serious therapy after Sunday night.

LOST (6x15)--Let's Recap

*Disclaimer: if you've not watched the episode from 5/11, discontinue reading.  Post contains spoilers

--Our episode opens to a shipwrecked boat and a pregnant woman (Claudia) who washes ashore alone on the Island. Another woman comes upon her and helps her. We learn that they are both alone, both came to the Island by "accident," and the second woman delivers the baby. The baby (Jacob) comes first and then another (MIB). Jacob is wrapped in white while MIB/Smokie is wrapped in black. The midwife acts strange and when Claudia asks to see the second baby, this strange woman kills her.

--The boys grow and start playing backgammon. (Another reference to Season One where Locke told Walt that neither one was good or bad.)  Their "mother" seems to sense everything. She knows who comes and goes, what game they were playing, etc. She tells MIB that he is "special." But MIB desires to know what is beyond the Island. And his mother tells him that "dead" is something he will never have to worry about. They are alone.

--As the boys are hunting, they come across other people. The "mother" says "they are not like us... they don't belong here... we are here for a reason... it's not time yet" ... Then she says the same thing that MIB said, (in the close of Season Five) "they come, they destroy, it happens again and again..."

--She tells the boys that she made it so they can never hurt each other. This must be "the rule" that Jacob and MIB keep talking about. (reference to in the close of Season Five)  Again, why Smokie cannot hurt the Candidates?

--She takes them to a glowing orb and tells them, "this is why we are here." She tells them that it's Light. They are not to go in there, and are to keep everyone from it. She tells the boys, "there's a little bit of light in everyone. If they find it, they will want more... and if they get more, they will eventually destroy it." One of the boys will have to protect it after she's done.

--Boys are playing backgammon again... MIB tells Jacob that one day he can make up his own game with his own rules... MIB sees Claudia, but Jacob cannot. This is interesting.  It seems to connect with the fact that MIB is "special."  Claudia tells MIB that she will show him where he came from, across the Island. He comes upon a village; it's the people from his mother's original boat. Claudia tells him it's how we came from across the sea. Claudia tells him the truth of where he came from.

--MIB tells Jacob the truth. Jacob starts to fight MIB till their "mother" pulls him off. MIB confronts her, but Jacob chooses to stay. Their "mother" tells him that he will never be able to leave the Island.  How has she made this possible?

--"Mother" says she killed Claudia to keep her from taking the boys back, so they wouldn't become bad. Jacob says she loves MIB more, but she says she loves them differently. Jacob agrees to stay with her.

--The boys keep in touch as the grow up. MIB find the villagers to be "bad:" greedy, selfish, etc. He says they are a means to an end: he's determined to leave the Island. They found the electromagnetic fields and something in one of them. MIB asks Jacob to come and Jacob doesn't want to leave.

--MIB says he couldn't find the Light and that is why he started digging. He's resentful that "Mother" wouldn't share more of it with him. So he shared it with his people. They found it. MIB is going to attach the wheel to a system that channels the Water and the Light. "Mother" knocks him out.

--"Mother" goes to Jacob and tells him "It's time." She says she said good-bye to MIB because she had no choice; Jacob must protect the Light. It's the source/heart of the Island. He must never go down there.  "It's worse than death."  By drinking the liquid, he promises to protect the Island until he find a replacement. Jacob says that she wanted it to be MIB, but she says she realizes now that it was always meant to be him. He doesn't want to, but finally gives in. She says, "Now, you and I are the same."  Kind of makes you wonder just how crazy Jacob is, huh?

--MIB wakes to find "The Well" is caved in, his village is burned down, everyone is dead. He returns to their camp and kills his mother. Before she dies, he asks why she wouldn't let him leave. She says because she loves him, then thanks him for killing her. It would seem that she too could not take her own life, just as the Candidates cannot.  Jacob comes to find that MIB killed her. MIB tries to tell Jacob about the village, but instead Jacob takes him to the Light and throws him in. MIB becomes Smokie and Jacob instantly regrets what he's done.  Again, I'm seriously questioning Jacob's sanity.  Could we have an Oedipus Rex complex on our hands?

--MIB's body is further down stream, Jacob finds him and buries him in the "Adam and Eve cave" with Mother. This is where Jack and Kate found the black and white stone in Season One. It's where Jacob lays the stones now. MIB buried in black, "Mother" buried in white.

--So who is good and who is bad?  Jacob trying to escape his fate as protector the Island and kills his brother in his rage?  Or MIB

--While I certainly don't agree with everything Jacob's done, it would seem as though the world is better off with Smokie/ MIB be trapped on the Island.  A victim of consequence, but crazy nonetheless.

--As Jacob would appear to be replaced by Jack, will someone replace MIB?  Hurley is the only other one who has spoken with dead people on the Island.  Desmond is the only one who calls anyone "Brother," the only name given to MIB in this episode.  Then again, maybe Desmond will replace Jacob as the protector, as indicated by his ability to withstand electromagnetism.  With only two episodes left, a mere three hours, I can only wonder how it will all turn out.

LOST (6x14)--Let's Recap

*Disclaimer: if you've not watched the episode from 5/4, discontinue reading.

--Ben mentioned that the temple was the last safe haven on the Island in Season 3. What does this mean for our LOSTIES that are left?

--Jack calls Locke "a candidate." Now Jack is referring to a surgery candidate, but it rings true of Jacob's candidates. Locke turns the surgery down. Is that what he would have done if confronted with Jacob?

--Widmore says that Kate isn't on the list so she's dispensible to him. Sawyer tells Kate that her name was crossed out on the cave wall. Does anyone remember seeing Kate's name? I don't remember it even being there.

--We have all kinds of LOSTIES running around in the sideways moments of this episode: Bernard, Locke, Jack, Claire, reference to Rose...

--The power goes down at the cages and Smokie shows up to kill the guards. Jack shows up to unlock the cages. Kate asks "What are you doing here?" to which Jack responds "I'm with him." Evantually all our LOSTIES are reunited and agree to work together, including Jack. Still Jack insists he's not leaving and Sawyer asks for his help in keeping Smokie from leaving the Island as well. What is the significance of Jack being "with him?" Is it like a two sides of the same coin kind of thing that Jacob and Smokie had?

--Jack confronts Smokie and says that Locke told him to stay on the Island. Katie gets shot and Jack has to carry her, this putting him on the sub. Smokie and Claire are still on the docks. They have to leave Claire to get away from Smokie. Smokie tells Claire that she doesn't want to be on that sub. Smokie place a bomb in Jack's pack. Now our LOSTIEs are diving in a sub with dynamite.

--Jack tries to convince the others that Smokie can't kill them. He needs them to kill each other. Turns out he's wrong. Or is he? Perhaps Smokie is only be stopped from killing "Candidates." Sayid takes the bomb and runs, thus sealing his fate. He tells Jack where to meet up with Locke. And tells Jacks "because it's going to be you (the candidate)." What does Sayid know? Does this revelation have something to do with the fact that Sayid has escaped his trans?

--Sun becomes trapped in the aftermath of the explosion. After Sawyer is knocked out, Jack is forced to leave Jin and Sun. You can tell by the look on all their faces that this is the end for Jin and Sun. Jin tells her that he won't leave her. "I'll never leave you again." Is this somehow our mysterious "Adam and Eve?" What a lovely redemption of their marriage. What a tragic loss of a Candidate. And I have to wonder what will happen to their daughter. Surely she won't be left to be raised by Sun's father.

--Jack confronts Locke in the hospital. We learn that Locke and his father were in an airplane accident which Locke caused. He blames himself to which Jack says "Your father is gone." Jack tries to convince Locke to stop punishing himself: "I can help you John. I wish you believed in me."

--Jack and Sawyer wash up on shore with Kate and Hurley. When they realize Jin and Sun didn't make it, we see Hurley cry. This is the first time I think I've seen Hurley cry. Jack breaks down as well.

--We flash back to Smokie and Claire on the docks. Smokie knows the sub sunk, but also that not everyone is dead. He says he's going to finish what he started. It would appear that Smokie's determination is to kill all the LOSTIES. I would say that at this point, he doesn't need them to leave the Island, but rather needs them all to die in order for him to leave the Island.

--Is there truly any significance to the music box that Christian left Claire? Or is it simply something to keep us guessing and get Jack and Claire closer together?

--Where are Richard, Ben, and Miles? What will happen when Jack realizes that such significant people where all on the same flight together? Where is Frank?

--Next week looks very light/dark, MIB/ Jacob centered. I can't believe how close we're coming to the end. Anyone planning a finale party???

No New LOST???

Sorry guys... LOST was a re-run last night. Can you believe it? Whatever will I do without my LOST fix?

You know it's so funny how little things can just knock you off your game. I have so many ideas roaming in my head that I could blog about, but Wednesdays are LOST days. I was sitting at home last night thinking, "I'm really not at a loss for material, but I'm just not in the mood. I wanna blog LOST."

Anyways... all that to say, nothing too exciting in the way of a post today. I'm crazy, hectic busy today. Three hours of volunteering at the YMCA, picking up a preschooler, dashing home for lunch and a little play time, running to gymnastics after nap, dropping the kids off at a friend's, and then to a meeting at a charter school. Oh, yeah, and bed time, and working out, and keeping the house clean... and hoping to do some crafting this evening.

To be quite honest, I'll probably skip the workout for chocolate and find myself falling asleep in front of the TV instead of getting my scrapbooking done. But a girl can always dream.

Life is catching up with me today... Hopefully it's giving you a break.

LOST (6x13)--Let's Recap

Wow! If you haven't watched the episode from 4/20, stop reading. It was chalk full of information!

*Jack asks Smokie if he ever took his father's form--yes, Smokie led him to water--- Smokie says all I've ever been interested in is helping you leave... it has to be all of us... Smokie is insistent that they stay together.. This reminds me of the quote from Season One, "Live together, die alone." Later in the episode Jack decides not to leave. He reasons that if Smokie wants them to leave, then staying on the Island is the way to contain the evil.

*Ben rides in the ambulance with Locke... the arrive at the same time as Jin and Sun,... Sun recognizes Locke and says, "Oh, no, it's him." For a moments she recognizes him. Will they get to LA in their realities and still remember each other? Is he Locke in this reality or Smokie?

*Claire and Jack start talking. For a change Claire seems to snap out of it, thinking Jack is going with them. He says he hasn't decided if he's going. She says yeah you have, you decided the moment you let him talk to you... you're with the rest of us now. This seems to carry on with the theme of NOT talking to Smokie.

*Sawyer and Kate are sitting in the police station... Sawyer comments that someone must be trying to bring them together... she comments that he let her go in the airport 'cause he went to Australia and didn't want anyone to know he was there... Miles and Sawyer start working on the homicide in the restaurant and end up looking Sayid caught on video leaving the restaurant... So many intersections in this episode. Someone does seem to be bringing all of them together. Desmond connects Claire with Iliana who is reading Christian's will to Jack. Brother and sister are finally united.

*Sawyer and Kate go on an "errand" for Smokie... Sawyer takes Jack aside and tells him to split off from the others and bring back Jack, Sun, Jin, Hurley, and Frank... Smokie takes Sayid and tells him to kill Desmond... for a moment, Sayid hesitates...Desmond asks him,"What will you tell her (Nadia)?"

*Sayid and Smokie connect later and there's still a question of wheather or not he killed Desmond. Sayid says he did, but... still I gotta hold out some hope for Sayid...

*Jack still doesn't feel right about leaving the Island... he remembers feeling empty after leaving... his reasoning "if Smokie wants us to leave, maybe he's afraid of what will happen if we leave." Before Jack jumps off the boat, he apologizes for getting Juliette killed.. remonicent of the moment when Michael apologized for killing Libby. Kate freaks out and insists they go after him. Sawyer: "We're done going back"

*Sawyer and his Losties encounter Widmore's gang. Jin and Sun are reunited in the most heart felt moment (wow!)... she gets her voice back in that moment. Could Jin be the chosen candidate? If Smokie took Sun's voice and Jin brought back???

*Jack looses his hearing in the explosion. Smokie saves Jack from a second explosion... Smokie says..."it's going to ok... you're with me now."

*Widmore's gang is turning on Sawyer and his group. So I'm still trying to figure out who's good and who's bad. I tend to not trust Smokie, but it's Lost. Anything can happen. Especially as it would seem that no one is "good" in this situation. Like real life, but still I want some answers!

My favorite quotes of the night:
Sawyer (referring to Frank):"That pilot who looks like he stepped off the set of a Burt Reynold's movie.."

Sawyer (in referrence to Claire) "before she started drinking locke's kool-aid"

LOST (6x11)--Let's Recap

*Disclaimer: If you haven't watched the LOST episode from 4/6, don't read any further.

*This episode opens with Widmore bringing Desmond back to the Island. He says that Desmond is the only person that he knows of that has survived an electromagnetic event and he needs him to do it again, to save the Island. He tells him that if Desmond doesn't help him, everyone he loves, will be gone.

*In Desmond's flash sidewasy, we find that he's single and working as Widmore's right hand. We also learn that Desmond's gift of seeing the future still exists. He correctly predicts that Claire's baby will be a boy.

*Eventually Desmond is put in charge of Charlie through a string of events with Widmore. Charlie tells him that he had a near death experience, seeing a woman that he was in love with, and that this isn't real. He says "I've seen the truth." And he seems to recognize that Desmond needs to see the truth too.

*Charlie tries to kill Desmond, giving him that near death experience, where he finally flashes to seeing Penny and his son. He also sees Charlie's hand and the message "Not Penny's boat." That moment reminds him of what is real. Charlie escapes, telling him to find Penny.

*Desmond is sent to Widmore's house and faces Eloise. Before he leaves, he overhears the name Penny and tries to find out who she is. Eloise tells him, "What happened, happened" (Daniel's words in trying to change the events on the Island. She also tells him that he's not ready to meet Penny, to wait.

*Daniel approaches Desmond and tells him that he's had the same experience as Charlie and Desmond. He also reveals that Penny is his half-sister and tells Desmond where to find her. Desmond goes to meet her and they set up a date.

*Desmond's flash sideways concludes with him saying he has to find the other passangers from his flight to show them the truth.

*After this flash sideways, Desmond agrees to help Widmore. He says, "I understand." He knows he has to save the life he has. But as they go into the jungle, Sayid ambushes the group and takes him. And again, he seems willing to help that side as well.

It looks like Desmond is the key to all of this. I also thought the Christian symbolism was interesting when Widmore comments that he knows about sacrifice, as he sacrificed his own son (Daniel) to save the Island.

This episode seemed like a turning point for me. Finally some people are seeing "the truth" of their reality. There was some momentum rolling toward a conclusion.

So what did you think? Anything I miss? Such a good episode. I hate to see them miss with Desmond's reality, but I loved the way this show gave some forward motion.

LOST (6x9)--Let's Recap

*Disclaimer: If you've not watched the LOST episode that aired on 3/24, discontinue reading this post. It contains ALL the answers to the LOST series.

*In a flashback, we see Jacob and Iliana talking about her need to protect the Candidates. Jacob tells her to ask Richard what to do. When she says this to Richard in the present, he just laughs and says he doesn't know what to do.

*Sun tells the others in her group about the Candidate theory. Jack questions Richard and he blurts out,"We're dead... Everything is not what you think it is... We're in hell." So the connections between LOST and theorolgy continue.

*Richard's story is told. His wife died and he was shipped to the new world as a slave. On The Black Rock, a ship that the passangers found in Season One. As the shipwrecks, a few passenger spots the four toed statue and says he see "The Devil." Once the ship stops, the same passenger says, "God spared us," not long before he's killed by the captain and the smoke monster kills everyone else.

*Later, Richard's dead wife appears and tells him that they are in hell; he must escape because the devil is coming. She runs, the smoke monster appears, and we hear her screams. Later as the MIB appears, he says he didn't kill her, but we already know that he is Smokie. He frees Richard and says, "It's good to see you out of those chains", a reference to the statement Smokie/Locke made to Richard in the first episode of this season.

*MIB too confirms this is hell. He tells Richard that Jacob is the devil and to kill him before he can talk (Dagon said this to Sayid about Smokie in an earlier episode). MIB promises what Richard wants the most, to be reunited with his wife, a common tactic of Smokie.

*Jacob tells Richard that he brought him, designates Richard as an intermediary between Richard and those he brings. Jacob is looking for someone to take his place in keeping Smokie on the Island. Jacob wants the people he brings to help themselves. He can't promise to absolve Richard of his sins or to reunite him with his wife so Richard asks to live forever.

*MIB/Smokie tells Richard that there's only one way to escape hell: kill the devil. This is confirmed by Richard's wife later in the episode. My suspicion is that Smokie is materializing as the wife to manipulate Richard. When she first appears in the episode, MIB appears right after her. When she appears a second time, the scene flashes to Smokie/Locke standing at a distance. Smokie ability to change forms has been confirmed on many occasions.

*After Richard turns Smokie down in joining his "team," Richard hides his wife's cross. In desperation for answers, he digs it up and puts it back on. That's when his wife returns for the second time. What could this have to do with "returning to faith?"

*Again we're tossed between who is good and who is evil. It would appear that Jacob is trying to protect the world from evil (Smokie). He says that the Candidate must keep Smokie on the Island. But then again, this is LOST. I'm afraid to commit to anything for fear I'll be thrown on the last episode.

*And I'm still wrestling with where Whitmore fits into all of this. Hopefully we'll learn more next time.

LOST (6x8)--Let's Recap

Disclaimer: If you haven't watched the LOST episode that aired 3/16, discontinue reading.

*We open to Sawyer and Jin talking. Sawyer doesn't seem to be in a trans like the others, but says he's with Smokie. He gives Jin his word that he won't leave till they find Sun. I gotta think that there's hope for Sawyer yet. After all, he tells Kate that he isn't with anyone.

*We flash side-ways and find that Sawyer is pulling the same cons that he was before. Only this time he's working for the cops. And working with Miles. He uses the code name Lafluer (his Dharma name) to call in back up.

*Smokie tells the OTHERS that the "black smoke" killed those that were at the temple. There are children that he comforts.

*Sawyer and Miles are partners. Sawyer seems to be tracking someone down, but is very vague with Miles. Miles knows he's lying, but Sawyer won't tell him.

*There's conflict brewing between Smokie and Sawyer. Smokie reveals his true identity. Smokie says it's either kill or be killed; he just wants to leave the Island. Smokie asks Sawyer to spy on Jack and the Survivors, but instead Sawyer runs into Widmore's people. Sawyer cuts a deal with Widmore to deliver Smokie, but then tells Smokie, playing both sides against the other. He tells Kate that they are going after the submarine.

*Miles sets Sawyer up with Charlotte. She looks at him and asks for the truth. He says he was at a point of being a criminal or a cop. So he chose cop. Telling the truth gets him the girl. :-) But looking for a shirt, she finds Sawyers file on the man who killed his family. He looses it and kicks her out. Even in this alternate reality, he's still consumed by his need for revenge.

*The Hydra Island turns out to be where Jack, Kate, and Sawyer were held by the OTHERS in season 2. Sawyer finds Kate's shirt and mourns for her. One of the most telling parts of this episode is how Sawyer (both on the Island and off) realizes his behavior is keeping him from real relationships. Off the Island, he reaches out to Miles and on the Island, he's looking after Jin and Kate.

*Kate asks Sayid if he believs "Locke." He stares at her in a trans and says that he does. Claire grabs Kate from behind and tries to kill her. Smokie rescues Kate and tells Claire the truth. He asks Kate if she's alright to which Kate exclaims, "No I'm not alright." I don't think there's a lot of hope for them.

*Charlie's brother shows up at the police station... :-)

*Smokie find Kate in her weakness, crying on the beach. He confesses to having lied to Claire about Aaron. He says Claire needed someone to blame, something to hate. Smokie tells kate that he mother was crazy and now he's working through problems. He relates it to Aaron and Claire. Claire reaches out to Kate, thanking her for taking care of Aaron. I can't help but think Smokie put her up to it. There's been talk on message boards about Lilith, a mythical storm deamon. And the Biblical parallels continue.

*Flash to Sawyer side-ways, ... Little House on the Prairie scene on Sawyer's television.. Laura and father Charles Ingalls are talking. Her father is telling her that people aren't really done when they die. Sawyer ponders that for a moment then goes to Charlotte's house trying to make up. She shuts him down. Tells him he blew it. What a sad existence.

*Sawyer accuses Widmore of killing the passengers, the people on the freighter... interesting that Widmore didn't deny it. So Smokie isn't working with Widmore???

*Side-ways Sawyer shows Miles the file on the man who conned his family. He confesses that he's going to kill him when he finds him. A car slams into their car and they start chasing down the driver: Kate. Sawyer recognizes her as the woman from the airport.

*I personally thought this was a better character storyline than anything else. It was a tell story of isolation and "looking out for one's self." One can only hope that Sawyer will realize this before he finally escapes the Island. And this seems to be the reason for which the Island took him.

*Wow! It looks like next week we're finally going to learn something about Richard. Yeah!!!

LOST (6x7)--Let's Recap

Spoiler Alert: if you've not watched the LOST episode from 3/9, stop reading.

*Ben runs from the temple after his encounter with Sayid. He finds Ilana, Sun, Miles, and Frnak. He convinces them to return to the beach. Seems so full of memories. Such a flashback to Season One.

*We learn that Ben is a teacher in his flashsideways. We also learn that Dharma and the Island did exist. Ben and his dad where there. But they left. His dad is afraid that Ben could have been more if they had stayed.

*We learn that Ilana knows there are six candidates left and that Sun and Jin are one of them. Although she doesn't know which one.

*Alex shows up as one of Ben's students. They seem to have a close relationship. She tells him about the affair between the principal and the nurse. Ben hacks the principal's inbox and attempts to blackmail him for his position. The prinicipal in turn blackmails Ben by holding Alex's college recommendation over his head. He asks if the principal's "power" is worth it to Ben. Ben sacrifices his need for "power" in favor of protecting Alex. He redeems himself. He overcomes his greed both on and off the Island.

*In the beginning, Ben the teacher remarks on the Island of ELBA. This is where "Napoleon looses his power." Ben remarks that without his power, he might as well have been dead. This is how we find the Ben of the Island, without power and feeling as though he has no hope. And digging his own grave as Ilana intends to shoot him for killing Jacob.

*On the other hand, Smokie closely resembles Napoleon himself. Two episodes again, he claimed to be stuck on the Island and attempting to escape.

*Miles "reads" Jacob's ashes and tells who killed him. And he tells us more. Jacob was hoping Ben would come through, that Jacob was wrong about him. Miles also read the two bodies buried in diamonds and at the end we see him studying the diamonds. His greed is revealed just as Ben changes his ways. Will Miles turn out to be a plant by Smokie?

*Richard reappears and yet we don't know what side he's on. He says they wouldn't believe him if he said where he's been. So where has he been? To hell and back? He says that Jacob gave him a gift and that's why he doesn't age. He leads Jack and Hurely to the ship and says that everyone at the temple is dead. He tells Hurley not to believe Jacob. He wants to die, but says that by being "touched" by Jacob, he can't die, can't even kill himself. (This is a great flashback to when Jack tried to kill himself off the Island; a car accident stopped him). This gift that Jacob gave him is actually a curse. He feels that his life has had no purpose.

*After Jack lights the dynamite to "kill" Richard, instead of running, Jacks sits next to him and says, "Let's talk." Jack knows that Jacob was watching him and therefore will not let him die. He doesn't yet realize he too was touched by Jacob. And thus the conversion of Jack to a Man of Faith is complete.

*Smokie appears to Ben. And we find that Ben is torn between the light and the dark. Smokie tries to recruit him by promising him the power to "Protect" the Island after he leaves. (as we know Smokie will promise anything to his recruits as exhibited by his promise to Sayid). Smokie sets up a scenario for Ben to escape and Ben runs. Ben has a heart rendering moment in which he tells Ilana he chose the Island over Alex in Jacob's name. He killed Jacob out of anger and fear of loosing his "power". He's sorry that he killed Jacob and doesn't expect forgiveness. He asks to leave, to go to Smokie, saying he's the only one who will have me. To which Ilana replies, "I'll have you." A stunned Ben follows her as she walks away. Ben sacrifices his need for power in favor of working with the Survivors. Talk about Biblical parallel. Most powerful scene of the night.

*In the end, Jack, Hurley, and Richard come walking into the beach camp to be reunited with Ilana and the other survivors. Ilana meets Jack and Hurley. And in this strange turn of events, Widmore is spying on them from his submarine. He tells his crew to "proceed as planned." It seems clear now that he is working with Smokie. Flash back to Season Three (?), Widmore told Locke that if he would return to the Island, the right side would win. That's when Locke started gathering the Candidates and when Ben killed him to protect his "power."

*I can't help but wonder about Frank. Could he be the piece of this puzzle that holds it all together? He's not a candidate and yet the Island does keep drawing him there. He didn't return on his own, or coming looking for someone.

LOST (6x6)--Let's Recap

Spoiler Alert: if you've not watched the LOST episode from 3/2, stop reading. I have all the answers to the season right here and I wouldn't want to spoil it for you.

--So this is what Sayid's life would be like if he'd never crashed. This episode starts off visiting his brother's family. His brother who is married to the Love of his Life (Nadia). Looks like he would have been better off on the Island. Dagon tells Sayid that the balance tipped in the evil direction when they tortured him. This balance of good and evil holds true when Sayid tips to the darkness and kills his brother's blackmailer.

--The fight scene with Dagon and Sayid at the beginning was incredible. Very well scripted and played out.

--Smokie convinces Claire to cross the ash line at the temple as he can't. She turns around and ask, "Are you going to hurt them?" To which Smokie replies, "Only the ones who won't listen." And this holds true in the end when Smokie comes through and kills the OTHERS that don't join him.

--Miles tells Sayid that he was death and something brought him back. So who or what brought him back? And was he really gone? Miles seems to have not heard anything from his ghost.

--Claire appears at the temple tell Dagon, "He wants to see you... You know who." Dagon knows not to leave the temple. Claire says send someone he won't kill and Dagon asks for Jack and Hurley, only to discover they've disappeared. He then turns to Sayid and tells him that Smokie was trapped by Jacob and will not stop till he's destoyed the Island. Dagon does not know he is Locke, but he will come in the form of someone dead. Kill Smokie before he speaks. Dagon appeals to the "good" in Sayid, asking him to kill Smokie. So why was Dagon looking for Jack and Hurley? To protect them? To send them in Sayid's place?

--Sayid tries to kill Smokie, but he's already spoke. Smokie's power is in speaking and manipulating others for his purposes. Here he manipulates Sayid by promising him anything he wants, even if that something is dead (Nadia? Shannon?) Sayid delivers Smokie's message: the OTHERS are free now that Jacob is dead. Some have said that Jacob was trapping them, but seems the OTHERS are leaving because Jacob is no longer there to protect them. They seem scared. Sayid says they will die if they stay. What he doesn't mention is that they will be turned to the dark side if they leave.

--Kate demands to see Claire who is trapped in a pit. Kate confesses to taking Aaron. The evil look in Claire's eyes is chilling. The scales have definately tipped in her. As Kate turns to run, Claire tells her, "I'm not the one who needs to be rescued... he's coming and they can't stop him."

--Sayid tells Miles not to leave yet. Is this because he's trying to keep him there for Smokie to kill him? Ultimately Miles gets connected with Ilana, Frank, Sun, and Ben, when Ilana hides them in the temple.

--Dagon reveals that he killed his son in a DUI accident. Jacob came, saying he would heal his son if he came to the Island. And so the baseball reminded him of his son and he saved Sayid's life. Sayid says he's staying, but then drowns Dagon. Sayid has been recruited by Smokie. By killing Dagon, Sayid has let Smokie into the temple. Those who stayed are no longer safe. So it causes on to wonder: what has really be protecting the temple? Jacob? Ash? Or Dagon? Killing Dagon is the final step in allowing Smokie to end the temple.

--Ben tells Sayid to come with him, there's still time. Sayid turns with an evil look and says, "not for me." Sayid's face says it all: pure evil. Ben disappears, but isn't in hiding with Ilana and the other LOSTIES.

--Sayid surveys the destruction as Kate and Claire come out. It would appear that Kate has been "recruited" as she picks up a gun and follows the other two. They go out to find Locke/Smokie and an army of OTHERS. They follow him in a trans-like state, marching toward who knows what.

--So is there anymore significance to the temple now that Dagon is dead? Is there something mysteriously religious and protective? Or has it lost all it's power?

--Could it be that Jacob and Smokie are simply two sides of the same coin? In season one, Locke is playing Backgammon and says there's a light side and a dark side. But nothing is ever mentioned about good and bad, holy and evil. There's a lot of talk about light and dark this season. However, it generally simply light and dark. Dagon's comment tonight about Smokie being evil incarnate was a rarity.

My favorite quote of the night:
--Kate returns to the temple after meeting Sayid. Miles tells her that Claire is back, acting all weird, "still hot though."

Oh, go out and search the internet for LOST Last Supper Photos. There are two versions. One looks eerily familiar to how the two sides are matching up. Still Ilana and Richard are pictured on the "dark" side.

LOST (6x5)--Let's Recap

Disclaimer: This post contains spoilers for last night's episode (and the illogical ramblings of a LOST fan). Read at your own risk.


Still moving sideways and yet something is amiss with a scar on Jack's side. It triggers a memory of his father. A memory that shows his father loved him, but didn't know how to show it. And as we flash to Jack's son (didn't see that one coming), we find that Jack's relationship with the boy is a mirror for his relationship with Christian. A pattern that is repeating itself. Christian has a hold on Jack that extends beyond the grave. Not only is Christian affecting Jack's relationship with David, Jack's own anger toward his father caused him to smash the coffin when it was empty on the Island.

It seems as though Jack tried to change this destructive pattern when his father died. The message he left on David's phone... Jack actually tried to reach out and stop the cycle. We find that David has been hiding his talent from his father so as to alleviate the pressure that Jack exerts upon him. The conversation in the parking lot is very heartfelt and seems to bring healing. One has to wonder is moving sideways wouldn't have been better for Jack. Especially when he mentions to Hurley that he returned to the Island because he was "broken."

Hurley has replaced Locke as the Man of Faith. That's why Jacob appears to him. That's why he could see Charlie and possibly Libby. Hurley is a man that believes in the Island and will act as a recruiter for Jacob.

Jack is our Man of Science, still. That's why he can't see Jacob, and why Jacob can't just tell him what he need to know. Jack has to work it out for himself. However, we still see predestination working it self out as Jacob manipulates them in going to the lighthouse and Jack discovering the picture of his boyhood home.

David was reading Annotated Alice- is being on the Island like going through the Rabbit Hole? If this whole things turns out to be a dream....?

And here we are back to Claire. Very Rousseau like. What happened after Christian? Claire mentions infection in Jin, and we see him being "recruited," unintentionally by Claire and Smokie. Iana said that Smokie can't take other forms now that he's in Locke's body so why doesn't Claire recognize him? It leads me to believe that he was Christian before and that's how Claire became "infected." But if he switched to Locke, why couldn't he switch again?

The lighthouse... Hugo says, "Guess we weren't looking for it." Have the LOSTIES been looking for the wrong thing? Not looking for the light. They turn the wheel to 108 degrees, the number of minutes every time Desmond pushed the button. Till Jack changes it to 123 degrees. There we see Jack's house in the mirrors. When Jack breaks the mirrors, I'm frustrated to see we'll never learn WHAT was at 108 degrees. Could it have been the destruction of the Island? Then again, if Hurley's number is 8, could the 108 have been insight into Hurley's character?

This idea of 108 continues to intrigue me. Must they all come together, forming 108 with their numbers, in order to save the Island?

What's the significance of "You have what it takes?" It's what Jack's been waiting to hear from his father his whole life. Calling David from Sydney was the first step in stopping that cycle that his father started. And the next step was reaching out to David after his audition. But back on the Island, Jack is still waiting to have that conversation with David. He's still waiting to be healed.

I also discovered in reading up on this episode, a viewer mentioned the scene from Season 3 when Ben is discussing the possibility of Jack operating on him, an other says, "But he's not even on Jacob's list." If Jack isn't the one on Jacob's list, who is Shepard? Christian? A future Kate Shepard? David? Claire, even?

LOST (6x4)--Let's Recap

Can I just say I love the Locke episodes? He's such a complex character. Particularly now that we don't really know WHAT he is. Or should I say WHO he is? I think he's great. Whoever came up with the idea for this character sure had it made. And Terry O'Quinn pulls it off so well.

*This Smoke Monster concept is incredible. His ability to draw others in is characteristic of Evil. Seeming to be innocent, appealing, drawing in. How both Ben and Sawyer have trusted him without cause.

*The Candidate Theory is going to get interesting. Sawyer must be a Candidate. Particularly how he can see through Smokie's premise of being Locke. Can only Candidates and people of power see the kids? Sawyer saw him. The rules must apply to "the game." Ben and Widmore were always talking about the rules of play. Which brings me to this thought: if Ben worked for Jacob and was good, therefore Charles must work for Smokie and be bad???

*These Candidates are running all over the place. Running into each other in LA. Destiny plays a huge role in this show. It would seem that although their flight never crashed they still "need" each other, still must find a way to "know" each other to be "saved."

*Love how the Smoke Monster doesn't believe in second chances, but here are all these passengers of the flight that got second chances. Second chances in LA, second chances on the island. Ben is getting a second chance of sorts by turning on Locke. Locke (aka Smokie) is getting a second chance at taking over the island.

*The burial scene is bizarre. Ben's speech was incredible. He comments that Locke was a man of faith. Then we flash to Locke contemplating calling Jack. And yet he doesn't have the faith that Jack can help him. It turns out that Helen has more faith. Locke is LOST. He's gone back to LA and has no faith. It's Helen who has faith, who believes in Destiny. It's her relationship with Locke that is going to "save" him in this alternate reality.

*I always believed that Locke and Ben could be friends in another world. They are too much alike. Deep. Methodical. On a mission. That's what Sawyer is becoming. On a mission.

*And now we see how the numbers are coming into play. Smokie tells Sawyer that he never had a choice after meeting Jacob. Again Destiny.

LOST (6x3)--Let's Recap

Caution... spoilers ahead...

While I loved last week's episode, this one didn't have nearly as many answers. Still the character development was strong... and after all, that's what keeps me coming back. Here are just a few of my thoughts on last night's episode:

*So now we have a 3rd leader: Smokie, Jacob, and Dagon? How does Dagon's fraction fit into the plan?

*I don't like this Kate in the flash sideways...She's angry, aggressive, self-centered... maybe it's just bringing out more of the truer version of herself than is already present on the island...

*ok, maybe she redeemed herself by going back to pick up Claire... It seems as though she, Claire, and Aaron where always fated to be intertwined...

*And Ethan returns to take Claire's baby... What's so special about Aaron? He seems to WANT to go to The Island... causing them a scare when Claire says she not ready to deliver... Perhaps Ethan was sent to this "reality" to take the baby again

*Is Claire as sick in the "new reality" as they claim she is in the old one? Perhaps that's why Ethan was supposed to take her baby after all. My prediction is that's why she was brought to The Island, Kate as well. So Kate could save Aaron and Aaron could save Kate.

*I find it so ironic that Kate was always meant to be a part of this baby's life. Then again, isn't irony what this show is really all about?

*Does anyone else just feel a need to take care of Sawyer? There'd better be some kind of redeeming storyline in the future for him and Juliette. I do hope the final scene of the show finds them together again. Both realizing that her "sacrifice" worked...

*When Sayid was being tortured, they wanted to make sure he wasn't the smoke monster? Th smoke monster has claimed Christian, Claire, Locke, and is moving on to bigger and better things...

*Who are THE GOOD GUYS? No one? Are there just varying degrees of better selves?

Watching the preview:
So... Smokie wants to destroy everyone that was "touched" by Jacob... he's gotten Locke and now he's after Sawyer... How did he get to Sayid and Claire? It seems as though these LOSTIES are destined to REDEEM The Island.

LOST(6x1-2)--let's recap

Spoilers Ahead... proceed at your own risk.

I'm LOST... what do we call ourselves? Not a trekkie... a LOSTIE? Hum, I feel a nose bleed coming on.

Anyways I digress...

I'm an absolutely LOST freak no matter how you want to put it. As if you couldn't tell by this. Or this. I can dissect an episode in my sleep. Don't laugh. I actually dreamt about LOST last night after watching the season premiere. Sick huh?

There are just a few things that have been going through my head today:

*Really? Did they have to make me relive the death of my favorite character over and over again? How many times did they kill Juliette? Four? And then to make me think she was still alive in the hatch? That's just cruel.

*Who is Richard? This is a question I wanted answered this season. And what did "Locke" mean by "good to see you out of those chains"?

*Can we bring back Walt? I'm wondering if he's going to be the key to defeating the smoke monster. Who are these others that have our friends? They were the ones that originally took Walt I believe. Could he be there on the island in this alternate universe?

*Will Jake and Claire ever realize they're related?

*And where does Christian fit into all this? Is Claire going to become the new man in black with Jack replacing Jacob?

*Is Sayid now inhabited by Jacob's spirit? Weird reserection theme going on here.

*Don't pull Desmond into this drama all over again. The man has been through enough.

*Will the passengers who returned to LAX have repressed memories? Did you see the way Jack grabbed the seat when they hit turbulence?

*Jack told Locke in LAX that nothing is irreversible. Hum....

*And speaking of the LAX Locke, he seemed more confident than the pre-crash Locke. Could he have actually done all those things they said he couldn't do?

*Why does it seem the two groups of "Others" don't seem to know about each other?

Too many questions, but thankfully there were a few answers:

*Island Locke wasn't really ressurected, but rather inhabited by the smoke monster.

*Jin and Sun seem to be headed for reuniting, that is if Sun doesn't leave Jin in the airport.

Ok, now that I'm thinking about... maybe there wasn't many answers.
