Stewarding Your Story: Manage or Mismanage

To Steward: to act as a steward of; to manage

Steward: one who manages property or affairs for someone else

How many times has it happened?  How many times have I walked away without sharing my story?  Worse yet, how many times have I known I was meant to share it and simply ignored the urge?

And yet, I keep my mouth shut.

In a world that's dying to hear about Jesus, ...in a world that's dying period, ... and I can still walk away.  Turn my back, close my mind, silence my voice, and harden my heart to sharing my story.  How many times will I mismanage all that I've been given?

In a world that glorifies drama, my story seems so small.  My life so insignificant.  I rationalize my silence with so many excuses:

"I'm just a mom."

"No one has the time to hear it."

"So-and-so is so much better at communicating than I am."

"Her story is more touching."

"His story is more relatable."

But you know what all those excuses are?  They're just sin.  Plain and simple SIN.

I've walked away and once again mismanaged the story that I've been entrusted with.  Yes, entrusted.  Because after all, it's not really my story to begin with.  It's a story of the Lord's work, not mine.  It's a story of His glory, not my accomplishments.

Have you ever thought of sharing your story as a form of worship?  Worshipping the Lord through speaking of his wonders?  And what could be more wonderful, more worthy of praise, more glorious than a changed life!

When we speak our testimony, when we share His story, we bring glory to Him.  It's not up to us to craft a story that will bring us recognition as wonderful speakers.  The task we've been given isn't to be all flash and dazzle.  We just need to open our mouths.  The rest is up to the Lord.  We're not speaking to convert others.  We're speaking to reveal his glory.

 Oh, give thanks to the LORD!
Call upon His name;
Make known His deeds among the people.
Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him;
Talk of all His wondrous works!
Glory in His holy name!
Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the LORD!
Seek the LORD and His strength;
Seek His face evermore!
Psalm 105.1-4

Make known His deeds!  Talk of all His wondrous works!  Sing!  Shout!  Dance!  Praise!  Live!

And speak fearlessly!

It really is too easy to say nothing. I like this part "to reveal his glory." Takes a bit of the pressure off and brings perspective, doesn't it?
