Freezer Cooking???

Each month FishMama at Life as Mom hosts a Freezer Cooking Festival.  Each month, it sneaks up on me and I think, "I wish I would have done that."  Each month.

So yesterday I was thinking, "Hey that's coming up.  Maybe I should get involved this month."

Nothing too crazy.  With two little ones underfoot, I can't imagine getting too much done.  But it would be nice to have a few things in the freezer.  Would it save me any money?  Would it save me any time?

So my question for you today is:

Have you ever tried freezer cooking?

Did it work for you?

How did you get started?

Is there an easy way to dip my feet in and try it out once?

What do you think?

I've done some of it. What seems to work better for me is to double or triple a recipe as I make it and freeze that for days to come.

I've done some freezer cooking, but not a full-blown OAMC. I blogged about a ground-beef cooking day: I started with 12 pounds of ground beef and made meatballs (cooked), meatloaf (uncooked), and browned meat (for chili, spaghetti sauce, etc.). I'll find the link if you like; let me know.

I'm with the previous poster--I don't do the OAMC, but I do like to do my ground beef in large quantities--it saves a lot of time.

Oh and I also will double a casserole recipe about once a week. Small changes make a big difference :)

Good luck!

It's always overwhelmed me even though I used to shop once a month (going every 2 wks now that I'm pregnant). Watching the comments section. :)

I've done it several ways. I've done it in some of those establishments where you go there and make your meals. Pricy, but the clean up and prep work is done for you. I've also done it myself where I've found the recipes and gotten together with a few friends. This is the more economical way to do it, but clean up and prep adds to your time.

Either way, we are getting ready to do it again next week while my mom is in town. I've got tons of recipes so let me know if you are interested. But a few hours in a day saves me hours every night figuring out what to make and lets me spend more times with my kiddos.

I've never done a full blown OAMC. I do however like to get together with a friend every few weeks and we pick out 3 or 4 recipes that freeze well. It usually takes us all day, what with little ones underfoot and all, but it is nice to have something in the freezer! I'm coming up on another round of it soon,, I think. It's a long busy day, but with another little one due in just a few weeks some extra meals will be nice to have on hand.
