Our Fifth Grade Reading List

Fifth grade can be tricky.  Reading abilities are all over the place, themes are becoming more complicated, and vocabulary takes a leap in preparation for middle school.  In developing this reading list, I tried to keep the storylines interesting to hold the child's interest, while also challenging their way of thinking.  And we do love historical fiction in our home as you'll see reflected in these books:

My Side of the Mountain
Little Women
Peter Pan
Bridge to Terabithia
Anne of Green Gables
Moby Dick
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe
Where the Red Fern Grows
City of Ember
Bud, Not Buddy
Shiloh
Mr. Lemoncello's Library
Call of the Wild
Rascal
Robin Hood
The Miraculous Journey of Edward Toulaine
The War that Saved My Life
The Sign of the Beaver
Wizard of Oz

What are your favorite books for this age?
