Maple Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls {Pinterest Inspired}

 photo IMG_1110_zpsccfa3c79.jpg

These Cinnamon Rolls popped up on Pinterest about a week ago and I was practically drooling.  And since it's fall... and since I'm a pumpkin fanatic...  well, these were baking in our house this weekend!  If you love pumpkin, these pumpkin cinnamon rolls just might find a place in your cookbook.

Maple Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls
(*from Creme de la Crumb)

Dough:
2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
1/4 c. warm water
about 3 c. flour
2/3 c. pumpkin puree
1/2 c. milk
1/4 c. butter, melted
1/4 c. sugar
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Filling:
1/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
4 Tbsp butter, melted

Frosting:
1 1/2 c. powdered sugar
1-2 Tbsp milk
1 tsp maple extract
1 Tbsp maple syrup

(or cheat like I did and use cream cheese frosting)

1. Dissolve yeast in water to proof.  Add pumpkin, milk, butter, sugar, salt, spice, and vanilla.  Mix together.  Slowly add flour, starting with 2/3 c., and slowly add add as dough forms a ball (mine took 3 c.)

2. Allow dough to rise in a warm place

3. Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface.  Mix together filling ingredients in a small bowl.  Brush melted butter over dough and sprinkle filling.  Roll dough tightly and cut into 9 sections.

4. Place cinnamon rolls in a greased pan, cut side down.  Cover and allow to rise until doubled in size (can also refrigerate at this time and bake in the morning).

5.  Preheat oven to 375 and bake 20 min or until golden brown.  Drizzle with prepared frosting and serve warm.

Enjoy!

After the Turkey's Consumed...

*Originally published 11/21/11

Ok, quick trivia question: What takes 6 hours to prepare and 30 minutes to consume?  Oh, yeah, and it makes you want to "Gobble, Gobble" when you're done?

Need a hint?

If you guessed Thanksgiving dinner, then you're right.  We spend all day in the kitchen lovingly preparing a feast for our family and friends, only to have it consumed in minutes.  So how do we spend the rest of our evening celebrating?   In a turkey coma on the couch?  Here are some ways to spend quality time after the Thanksgiving meal.

1. Grab your sister-in-law and clean up the kitchen, giving the cooks a break.

2. Hold the baby so the new mom can enjoy some adult conversation.

3. Take the kids for a walk around the neighborhood.

4. Play a game of Rummy.  Or whatever card game your family enjoys.

5. Savor the girl talk at the dinner table.  When else can you send the kids outside and catch up?

6. Take out that game of Monopoly.  Here's your chance to finish in one sitting.

7. Check out the football game.  Even if you're not a regular watcher, spend time cheering on the team with your husband.

8. Create a Thankful Chain with family.

10. Have a face to face conversation.  Turn off Facebook, Twitter, and text and have a real conversation with the people you're thankful for.

How will you be celebrating Thanksgiving?

Adventure Bible Storybook Deluxe Edition

This Deluxe Edition includes a hard cover version of the Adventure Bible Storybook as well as two CD's that slide into a sturdy cardboard folder.  Both come packaged in a hard storage case.

This Adventure Bible Storybook contains most of the most loved and known classical passages of the Bible in a story format.  So if you're looking for a Bible that holds closer to the text, this isn't it.  There are liberties taken and details added.  However, the stories are well-told and beautifully illustrated.  This Bible Storybook contains over 50 stories, including excerpts from Psalms and Proverbs, a rarity in children's bibles.  The CD's follow along with different voices for the characters as well as music/effects to enhance the story.  They were a selling point for me as my kids can follow along, even when they can't read every word.

Each story also includes an "Adventure Discovery" with a few additional story details.  With some of them, there's also a Biblical reference for learning more.  "Words to Treasure" can be found with each story as well, highlighting a verse to memorize.

While I'd hoped the stories would have more closely followed the Biblical text, overall this was a good addition to our library and a good introduction to the Adventure Bible series.
